Purification Essential Oil

Summer is here and with summer comes bug bites. Young Living’s Purification oil is not only famous for being gentle on the skin, but also for repelling those pesky bugs while you’re outdoors. It’s an aromatic blend of Lemongrass, Rosemary, Citronella, Lavandin, Myrtle, and Melaleuca (Tea Tree). If you’re planning a camping trip, create your own non toxic bug spray. Simply get a bottle, add 10-20 drops per ounce of witch hazel, shake, and spray as needed. If you manage to get a bite, it’s also wonderful to help calm the itch and inflammation. As always, make sure you test the oil on a patch of skin first to make sure there are no reactions.

It’s definitely one of the best essential oil blends.

Benefits & Uses

Air Freshener
One of my favorite ways to use Purification is simply diffusing it in the diffuser. It makes the house smell amazing. If we have dirty diapers in the garbage that are starting to stink yet we don’t need to take out the trash, Purification completely masks the smell.

Meditation & Prayer
An easy way to help promote harmony and balance during meditation and prayer is to diffuse Purification or rub the oil on your feet.

Skin Blemishes
As with insect bites, Purification will help calm and clear blemishes by reducing redness and inflammation. Add a few drops to your favorite toner or moisturizer and use once a day. You can also add a couple drops onto a cotton ball and apply directly.

Shoe Odor
When Dave gets home from working construction all day, his shoes can stink up the entire house. By putting a few drops of Purification onto cotton balls or paper towels and slipping them into the toes of the shoes, the smell naturally dissipates.

Essential Oils: Frankincense

Dating back to the ancient Egyptians and Sumerians, Frankincense (Boswellia carterii) is a known and loved oil. Extracted from the resin, Frankincense is used for cosmetic purposes, spiritual and religious traditions, and all-around wellness. The scent is spicy and earthy with the slightest hint of fruity.

Lately, I’ve been adding Frankincense into Dave’s daily routine to help control the acne on his back. Within a week, the results have already been incredible: the size of the acne has reduced, the redness has gone down, and there are less spots than there were. Guys, I’m seriously amazed. Even Dave (the one who usually mocks my crunchy & natural approaches) is impressed! The recipe is simple: 1-2 drops per teaspoon of coconut oil. Layer Copaiba on afterward to magnify Frankincense’s properties (it’s an expensive oil so you’ll be able to use less by using copaiba).

Seriously, this oil is heavenly.

Benefits & Uses

Stress Relief
Diffuse a little throughout your day to release negative emotions. Use 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil per 1-2 drops of oil and add to your bath to relax or as an oil to massage onto the soles of your feet. Both will have you feeling refreshed and anew in no time.

Acne, Scars & Stretch marks
Use this oil to help reduce the appearance of acne, scars, and stretch marks. I wouldn’t recommend using it on an open wound but use it to aid healing and fade scar tissue.

Swollen Joint Relief & General Pain
Massage 1-2 drops of Frankincense onto the affected area with 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil.

Immune Support
Frankincense helps strengthen, boost, and activate the immune system.

Sleep Aid
Keep this next to your diffuser for night time sleep. Frankincense helps promote relaxation, a release of negative emotions, and satisfaction.

Meditation & Prayer
A perfect addition to your yoga routine, Frankincense helps you to relax. It’ll open your senses and breathing patterns. Put a few drops in your diffuser and take a deep breath. Bring yourself into peace & calm.

Pairs well with:
Myrrh, bergamont, any citrus oil, sandalwood, chamomile, vanilla, and clary sage.

Until August 14, 2015, the Premium Starter Kit at Young Living is $10 off. This means a $300 value for only $150! Copaiba (Ko-pah-ee-bah) is a resin acquired from South American leguminous trees. The resin is collected similarly to the tapping of the maple tree. This molecule is known for its use in providing pain relief, digestive comfort, supporting healthy joint function & bone mass, and other irregularities. Here are some other uses and benefits Copaiba essential oil will provide.

Essential Oils: Peppermint

Over the course of the next few weeks, I’ll be touching base on all the essential oils in the Young Living Premium Starter Kit and presenting you with information, benefits, recipes, and other resources. If you feel like purchasing a Wholesale Membership along with the Premium Starter Kit, feel free to sign-up here or if you don’t want to purchase a starter kit and just want the one essential oil you can sign up through me as a Retail Customer here instead. Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is a recognizable scent and one of the most beneficial essential oils. Almost every mind, body, and health ailment you can think of can be benefited by peppermint oil. It’s infamous for being used to freshen bad breathe with either candies, mouth wash, or spray but it can also be used for skin, head aches, digestive issues, hunger, energy, and other problems. The plant itself contains menthol which provides a cooling and calming sensation.

The use of peppermint oil has been dated back to 1000 B.C. in ancient Egypt and Asia. It was used for its healing and restorative properties. In Greek mythology, it is said the god Hades/Pluto transformed a nymph, named Minthe, into the plant so she would be appreciated for many years later and that she has! It’s been used for medicinal purposes for centuries and, thankfully, it has found its way back into popular culture.

The most common way I’ve used peppermint oil is to alleviate my headaches. Along with lavender oil, it works like a charm. Mix together 3-4 drops of peppermint oil and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Then, just apply a little (diluted, of course) onto the temples, forehead (near the scalp line), and the back of your neck and watch it work its magic! If you’re prone to headaches, make enough to stash away in your purse or your desk at work.

Please note: Always read the jar the oil comes in for precautions. Peppermint, in particular, is a very hot oil. Do not use on babies or children under 6. Use peppermint sparingly during nursing as it has been known to drop milk supply. As with anything, always check with your doctor if you’re pregnant or nursing.

Other benefits of Peppermint

Stomach discomfort
Diffusing peppermint around the house can help alleviate nausea and stomach discomfort. Also, rubbing it onto your hands and inhaling, massaging onto wrists, or rubbing a couple drops onto your abdomen will work as well.

Energy
Diffuse to kick-start your morning. You can also carry a bottle around with you and take whiffs throughout the day. Or apply generously on the back of your neck and shoulders to help stay energized.

Stress
Diffuse or add a few drops into a warm bath to help relax.

Concentration & Alertness
Diffuse it during it tests or while working to promote mental alertness. It’s been known to help provide mental clarity while raising energy levels. Similar to energy, apply to the back of the neck and onto shoulders. Inhale before a test or during work to regain concentration, boost your mood, and fight fatigue.

Hunger
No time to eat or grab a snack? Inhale peppermint to curb the cravings until you get the chance.

Sore Muscles & Body Aches
Apply peppermint oil to the affected area to relieve pain and inflammation.

Mouse Repellent
Soak cotton balls with peppermint oil and place where they may be entering your home. You can also place them in areas they may have already been to avoid other mice following the scent or in areas you don’t want them to enter.

Respiratory Support
Clear your nose with a little peppermint! Menthol is often found in chest rubs such as Vick’s. A natural remedy is rubbing a little peppermint oil in your chest and temples. You can also inhale and diffuse it. Another option is pouring it into boiling water, draping a towel over your head, and breathing in the steam. It helps clear your throat, lungs, and nose.

Hair Growth
Peppermint helps stimulate and circulate blood flow so it’s ideal for promoting hair growth. Use coconut oil as a carrier and add to your favorite conditioner!

Skin Toner
The cooling, refreshing properties of peppermint oil does wonders for your skin especially on those hot summer days. Mix about 1 cup filtered water, 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar, and 30-50 drops of peppermint essential oil. Store in the fridge for an even cooler effect!

Many parents struggle with putting their little one to bed. Some nights can seem excruciatingly daunting especially when you’re lacking on rest yourself. During these times, something I’m extremely grateful for is lavender essential oil.

The lavender (Lavendula angustifolia) aroma has been so wonderful to Maddox (and to me!). He’s been much more calm, his sleep cycles seem to last longer, and putting him to bed is a little easier. After his night time bath, I rub Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Calming lotion (made with lavender) on his skin. Then I massage his feet with lavender essential oil in a carrier. A favorite of mine is fractionated coconut oil but you can use tea tree, olive, etc. Whichever you prefer! I also dab a little onto his third eye, the spot between his eyebrows. Occasionally, I’ll rub diluted lavender on my palms and slowly pass it in front of his nose a couple times. You can even add a couple drops into his bath (diluted first by a water-soluble carrier such as vegetable glycerin). All of these will help to calm and soothe your baby.

Please note, babies are VERY sensitive and you have to use extreme precaution when using EO’s on or around them.  I have done my research for my own little one on what essential oils are safe so use your judgment or speak to a professional. I recommend when introducing essential oils to your baby, you test a diluted dab on a tiny section of their skin. Introduce oils to them gently since their skin is so new and fragile. Remember dilution is key and very important for babies and children. Personally I feel safest using 1-2tbsp of carrier oil with 1-2 drops of lavender.

Other Benefits of Lavender

Bug repellent
You can either make a spray or dab a few drops on your wrists, knees, neck, and wrists to keep the pesky little insects at bay. Here’s a wonderful bug spray recipe.

Insect Bite
Rub 2-4 drops of Lavender oil onto the mosquito bite.

Alleviates headache pain
Inhale lavender for about 15 minutes. The best way is a few drops in a diffuser.

Acne & General Skin Care
If you have an outraged blemish, try a drop of lavender oil on a q-tip and apply a couple times a day. This can also work to help lighten acne scars. You can also create a toner with a bottle of witch hazel or jojoba oil and add 5-10 drops (depending on the bottle size) and apply morning and night. For dry skin, pour water into a spray bottle and add 10-15 drops of lavender until symptoms subside. Or apply with a nut/vegetable oil.

Feel free to purchase your own lavender by signing up with Young Living!
